FAN HOUSE RENOVATION
The clients, an interior designer and milliner who had recently relocated from New York City, sought to honor the architecture of the original structure of this 1920’s Richmond house while reimagining the interior with contemporary design elements, particularly in the back half of the house. While the front parlor, foyer and dining rooms were renovated to maintain their classic proportions, the rear half of the house, mainly the kitchen, primary suite and study, reflect a modern aesthetic that is seamlessly blended in. The extensive use of oil-finished oak paneling softens the crisp lines and shadows, and provides a rich backdrop for the vibrant colors and patterns of the interior selections. A prototypical Richmond Fan house is renewed with very modern character.
